Join us for 3 nights celebrating the unique stories of intergenerational and intercultural women and non-binary creatives in tech. Each evening presents a digital premiere of a new commission/s, followed by an engaging, intimate conversation with established star guests.

Post-event, WITCiH Digital Festival attendees are also invited to an experimental, immersive after-party within a custom environment we've designed in @topia.io. Join us for intimate avatar exploration of spatial audio artworks plus video chat to fellow audience members, commissioned artists and guests. WITCiH World will be open for an hour after each event finishes next week.

Nemone has been broadcasting for a quarter of a century with the last twenty years at the BBC (Radio 1, Radio 2, Five Live, BBC Radio 6 Music.) Her passion for electronic music led her to curate a weekly specialist show Electric Ladyland for the last decade. She now hosts her Journeys in Sound series taking a deeper dive into our relationship with music and its effect on the mind, body and soul. Nemone holds a masters in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling and sees clients weekly. Her show Dance Devotion airs every Saturday night/Sunday morning at midnight in the UK on BBC Radio 2. Matronic's book Robot Takeover: 100 Iconic Robots of Myth, Popular Culture, and Real Life was published by Hachette/Octopus in 2015. Matronic is a frequent public speaker on the subject of robots, artificial intelligence, and Transhumanism; in November 2017 she delivered her TEDx talk “Living the Electric Dream” at Stormont in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Anil Sebastian is a multi-disciplinary artist, member of the Icelandic band Hrím, co-founder and director of London contemporary voices choir and creative director of DLMDD.  Anil Sebastian has also co-founded Trans Voices with Coda Vallach - the UK’s first professional transgender choir. They are also currently collaborating with Ai Da, the world’s first humanoid AI robot performance artist. In October 2020 Anil Sebastian’s music film Daffodil was released on NOWNESS Experiments. A year later she created the soundtrack for BBC documentary, Lee Miller - A Life On The Frontline and scored the 4-part Channel 5 TV thriller The Deceived. In March 2021 she released a new electronic album Fir Wave to critical acclaim where she rebuilt and re-defined the music of Delia Derbyshire and the Radiophonic Workshop by re-interpreting the original music of the celebrated 1972 KPM 1000 series: Electrosonic and only weeks later recorded a collaborative record with the Paraorchestra, details of which will be announced later this year. Uniting elements of ambient, electronic and bass music, her sound ranges from evocative and melancholic soundscapes to beat-driven tracks. Alongside the release of her first album REDUX via Blurred Recordings in 2017 live performances evolved using abstract visuals and projections. In 2020 Rice launched the NEW WORLDS project, working with a team of international technologists and designers, for which a series of tracks were created each with their own visual world. Most known for her live finger drumming performances with her online content reaching a large following all over the world and a rapidly growing audience. You can find her performing a highly skilled and captivating live show using Native Instruments Maschine. Her debut label release in 2020 featured on new independent label 4NC¥ created by Foreign Beggars founding member Pavan Mukhi. Gnarly also featured on her first international compilation in 2020 with German label Dedicate and is set to appear on Amsterdam based label Anarkick Beats in 2021. WITCiH – The Women in Technology creative industries hub, elevates & commissions the voices of Womxn in Tech,  co-founded by artist/composer, BISHI. Former WITCiH guests have included Imogen Heap, Mira Calix, Gazelle Twin & Ana Matronic.  WITCiH has curated performances at Tate Modern, BFI Southbank, & founded their own festival, ‘The State of Gender?’ WITCiH is based at The Rattle, a collective of tech startups & have advocated for gender equality in parliament for the PRS Foundation.

WITCiH celebrate the positive & fundamental womxn have made to the inception, development & utilisation of technology in art, education & industry.

WITCiH at NOW Gallery will celebrate a return to form with performances by BISHI, Output Arts, Laura Kreifman, Abi Wade and with more guests to be confirmed. The event will be the launch of a new video collaboration for BISHI’s forthcoming album ‘Let My Country Awake.’

This year, WITCiH continues with a series of live streaming events at The Rattle to coincide with the launch of a WITCiH Patreon. As ever, these salons will focus on the artistry & ideas of Women/Womxn in Tech. Guests include:

Laura Kriefman


Laura Kriefman is the Director, Producer and Artist behind Hellion Trace and has over a decade of experience delivering interdisciplinary projects worldwide that fuse the performing arts and creative technology.Her expertise in these areas has been recognised by numerous international fellowships including: Questlab Artist in Residence with Wayne McGregor, 2018 Mozilla XR Studio Fellow, PRS Female Innovator in Music (keychange.eu), 2016 INK Fellow, 2015 WIRED Magazine/The Space Creative Fellow and a 2011-2012 Fellow of the Clore Cultural Leadership Programme.

Hellion Trace (formerly Guerilla Dance Project) have won multiple awards for digital innovation and specialise in Augmented Dance: the fusion between movement and technology. Resident at the Pervasive Media Studio, Bristol, they create interactive installations and spectacles that have been commissioned worldwide including USA, Brazil, Ireland, Croatia, Europe, India, and Indonesia. Recent work includes Kicking The Mic, a performance piece fusing live tap dance, looping and a fully sound reactive LED dress, winning the Smart Oxford Playable City Commission, and Mass Crane Dance which was launched as part of her Creative Fellowship with WIRED Magazine. Mass Crane Dance is a spectacular meeting of music, light, and synchronised construction cranes dancing across the skylight at night: The inaugural Crane Dance Bristol event was seen by 10,000 people and reached 4 million people online.

Laura has been a guest speaker at INK, WIRED, ReMIX, SxSW Interactive, World Science Fair (New York), IRCAM Paris, the Southbank Centre, and TEDxRoma, TEDxDanubia and TEDxLondon. She has been an expert reviewer for MoCo for the last 4 years, and for SIGGraph and has recently started a practice based PhD into Augmented Choreography with the 3d3 Research Centre.

BISHI

Musician, Artist, Multimedia Performer, Producer and Curator, BISHI was born in London of Bengali heritage. Bishi received musical training in both Hindustani and Western Classical styles, including the study of the sitar under Gaurav Mazumdar a senior disciple of Ravi Shankar. She has recorded two albums, produced by Matthew Hardern: Nights at The Circus and Albion Voice. Bishi is the Artistic Director of WITCiH: The Women in Technology Creative Industries Hub, a platform she co-founded to celebrate Women & Non-Binary at The Intersection Creative Tech & STEM.

Commissioned by National Sawdust NYC, her third album ‘Let My Country Awake,,  co-produced with composer, Jeff Cook is inspired by ‘The Good Immigrant,’ collection of essays edited by Nikesh Shukla.

Bishi's collaborations & commissions for the stage have included The London Symphony Orchestra, Yoko Ono’s Meltdown, The Science Gallery, Nick Knight/Showstudio & session work with Sean Ono Lennon, The Kronos Quartet, Daphne Guinness & Tony Visconti.

Bishi has been commissioned by the Delia Derbyshire Archive to compose a piece of music, to celebrate 50 years of ‘An Electric Storm,’ which Derbyshire was responsible for the electronic sound realisation. Bishi is currently making a documentary for Radio 4 about the groundbreaking tech company, ROLI & is touring nationwide with Emmy The Great in May/June 2019.


Abi Wade

Using cello, vocals, orchestral arrangements, choral ensembles, location samples, synths and piano Abi Wade explores human nature through real and abstracted personas on her debut album ‘Beautifully Astray’ released in April on Love Thy Neighbour.

‘Beautifully Astray’ was recorded with support from Help Musician’s Emerging Excellence award, and the release with support from PRS for Music Foundation’s Women Make Music.

While developing as an artist, she has has toured the UK & Europe with Patrick Wolf, sold out her debut EP and released music on the label set up by Daniel Copeman of Esben & The Witch and has played shows with the likes of CocoRosie, Polica, Michael Kiwanuka, Other Lives, Deptford Goth and festivals such as End of The Road, The Great Escape and Wilderness.

WITCiH is proud to present 'The State of Gender?' an After Hours event at We The Curious.

Watershed and We The Curious have invited Bishi – Artistic Director and Co-Founder of WITCiH (Women In Technology Creative Industries Hub) – to curate an evening of music, performance and workshops celebrating creative technology and the women using it. As well as performing live on the night, Bishi will be joined by an exclusive line up of local and national artists and DJ’s to perform alongside her.

You can also book tickets to join Anna Henley (Planetarium Officer) in the Planetarium who will take you behind the scenes, live coding your journey through the universe.

The whole of We the Curious will be open to explore and will be filled with a series of performances and workshops including some from our own Pervasive Media Studio residents. The bars will be open all evening and the Pizza Bike will be serving too.
